Voulez-View

A slow morning was necessary and a little sleep-in was just what the doctor ordered.

With virtually nothing planned today, we went through things still on the list to do and decided to visit  Montjuic.

We landed up walking our way up the little mountain-hill after Google Maps let us down and we missed the Funicular. It turned out to be the perfect mistake as we landed up walking past the 1992 Olympic Pool where the iconic photos of the platform divers were taken with Barcelona in the background.

We did then manage to find the cable car which saved our tired legs many more stairs and kept my t-shirt relatively dry as we made our way to the castle at the summit.

A walk around the castle taking in the magnificent views of Barcelona made the trip up so worthwhile.

Nikki made it through another cable car trip back down the hill again soaking in the views across the city before it was time for lunch. This time we found the funicular, another method of transport ticked.

After the madness of Mercat de la Boqueria a few days ago we decided to try the more ‘local’  Mercat Santa Caterina. Sitting at Bar Joan we finally tried a Menu del Dia, a set lunch menu with choices for three courses. Stuffed tomatoes, seafood paella, rabbit, steak with cream ham sauce, strawberries and cream and a coffee flan…and drinks all for €15 each!

The afternoon was taken up meandering through the streets of Barcelona totally randomly before making our back to the hotel to rest and prepare for our final night in Barcelona.

The beautiful Jardines de pedralbes was the venue for Le Nits de Barcelona (Barcelona Nights). Think Starlight Classics at Vergelegen Wine Estate.  Food stalls and lights before a concert with the Palau de Pedralbes as the backdrop.

There we danced and sang our way to midnight with ‘Bjorn Again’ an ABBA tribute band from Australia.

We are incredibly thankful for the time we have been able to spend in Barcelona and the experiences it has given us in the days we’ve spent here.
