Madrid to Porto

Today was a travelling day. A short breakfast at a small cafe a block away from our Airbnb was all we had time for before taking a leisurely bus ride to the airport.

The plan was to spend some time in a lounge, have lunch there before boarding our plane. But slow moving queues and the distance to the lounges put paid to that idea.

The Ryanair flight was uneventful and extremely short and made to feel even shorter as we gained gained an hour. After landing safely in Porto, briefly acknowledging that we were in a new country we found and caught the train to our hotel which turned out to be a charming little hotel in Campanha.

There was time to put up the feet and shower before we set out to experience Porto at night (the whole reason for flying rather than catching the train).

I had thought our hotel was a little out of town but had planned it that way as it was close to the station for our exit tomorrow. Turns out a little out of town was a 4 minute train ride.

We immediately fell in love with Porto. It’s undulating streets, Portuguese architecture, friendly people and then the vibe around the Douro River made us feel very at home. We treated ourselves to a top class meal at a restaurant on the main Waterfront after a downhill wander through the streets, shops and a market.

Common sense then prevailed and we returned to our comfy hotel room as tomorrow has a early (for us) start.
