French Open – Day 7

The last day week 1 and it was another great day of tennis. On the ladies draw we saw the loss of 2 more top 10 seeds as Badosa and Sabalenka both lost their 3rd round matches. This leaves Swiatek as the last top 10 seed remaining in the draw. Begu, Swiatek, Kasatkina and Pegula all won their matches in straight sets. Cornet and Badosa both sadly had to retire in their respective matches. The last ladies match on was between 22nd seed, Keys, and the 16th seed, Rybakina. Rybakina won the first set 6-3 and Keys won the 2nd set 6-1. The third set was evenly matched and a super tiebreak was required to decide the winner. Keys coming out on top winning the tiebreak 10-3.

On the mens side, Sinner, Medvedev, Cilic, Hurkacz, Tsitsipas and Rune all won their matches in straight sets. Rublev had to fight past Garin as he won in a tight 4 set match. The match of the day was between 8th seed, Ruud, and 32nd seed, Sonego. Ruud taking the first set before Sonego took the next 2 sets. Ruud wasn’t done though as he took the 4th and the 5th set to secure his spot in the 4th round.

‘Forever and a Clay’ remain in the lead and the gap has been extended to 10 points over ‘Phenomenadal’. ‘Seize the Clay’ are 3 points behind 2nd in 3rd place. ‘Simply Smashing’ sits in 4th place and ‘Never Nadal Moment’ rounds out the prize positions in 5th place. ‘Nuts 2 U’ remain in the wooden spoon position.

Just a reminder that no more subs may be used from this point onwards.
