French Open – Day 6
Day 6 started off with a very impressive win from the 15th seeded, Schwarztman who beat 18th seeded, Dimitrov, in straight sets. This earned Schwartzman the best male pick of day 6 as he scored 8 points for those who chose him. Auger-Aliassime, Nadal, Djokovic, Zverev and Alcaraz all beat their opponents in straight sets to book their spots in the 4th round. Spaniard Zapata Miralles managed to overcome big serving, 23rd seed, John Isner in a tight 5 set match. Khachanov managed to knock out 10th seeded, Brit, Cam Norrie in 4 sets.
Muchova was playing an amazing match against 27th seed, Anisimova, but sadly at 2-2 in the 2nd set rolled her ankle as she slid for a ball. This hampered her movement and she eventually had to retire. The 17th seed, Fernandez, overcome a tough opponent, that being 14th seed, Bencic, in a tight three set match. Fernandez started off strong leading 3-0 in the first set before Bencic found her form and it was the Swiss who was serving for the set at 5-4. Fernandez broke back after saving 2 sets points and went on to take the first set 7-5. Bencic didn’t let this bother her as she broke early on in the 2nd set and took it 6-3. Fernandez however was the first to break in the final set and she served for the match at 5-4. Bencic wasn’t finished as she broke back to make it 5-5 before losing 2 games on the trot and the match. Unseeded Sasnovich continues her run of beating seeded players as she knocked out 21st seed, Kerber in straight sets. Gauff, Mertens and Stephens all won their matches in straight sets. The match of the day however, was between 15th seed, Azarenka, and 23rd seed, Teichmann. Azarenka led by a set and a break but Teichmann fought back to win the 2nd set 7-5 and then went on to win the 3rd set super tie-break 10-5.
Onto the fantasy league and our leader ‘Forever and a Clay’ keeps the lead. ‘Phenomenadal’ moves up 2 places to 2nd and trails by 7 points from the leader.
