French Open – Men’s Final

The French Open has come to a close. What a match to finish off with! Tsitsipas managed to save a set point in the first set before taking it 7-6(6). He then managed to break Djokovic twice to take the 2nd set 6-2. We all know though that you can never write off the world number 1. Djokovic managing to keep his hopes alive as he took the 3rd set 6-3. He then broke Tsitsipas first game in the fourth and then raced to a 4-0 lead. 4 holds of serve and we were going the distance. Tsitsipas looked a lot less comfortable on serve and the 3rd game of the set was where Djokovic broke the Greek. A great final set pursued but ultimately the one break of serve was enough for Djokovic who wins his 19th grand slam. This is also the first time that he has won a grand slam final from 2 sets down. His mental toughness is insane. Tsitsipas is just 22 and I am sure that we will see him in a lot more grand slam finals. A great tournament from the Greek!

With the being the last day, the final scores are in. The winner of the R1000 grand prize is…’Oh My Hat’ (Also known as Des Agliotti). Congratulations partner. In second place and so nearly winning it was…’Lorna Forbes’. If only Tsitsipas had won in straights sets, she would’ve won by 2 points. She walks away with R400 – Well Done! And then there was a tie for 3rd so the prize for 3rd and 4th is combined and divided between them. This means both these teams will walk away with R150. It is ‘Romain Soula’ and ‘Ian’s Alternates’. Well done to them. ‘Frogs Legs yum yum’ and ‘Ronan the Man’ just miss out in 5th and 6th. The Floating Wooden Spoon will be transferred from Clay Champs (also known as Sean Reilly) to ‘Frogs First’ (also known as Audrey Hugo).

With Wimbledon just 2 weeks away, entries will be opening this coming week. You will all be notified when it does open. Thank you to all the teams that entered, it was amazing to see 57 teams battle it out for the win.

SIDE NOTE: The teams in yellow picked either the ladies or mens winners. Not one team sadly picked both the mens and ladies winners. The only team that had a chance today was ‘Ian’s Alternates’ but sadly Tsitsipas didn’t win.
