French Open – Ladies Final
Day 14 – the ladies final! Unseeded Krejcikova was up against 31st seed Pavlyuchenkova. Very few would’ve predicted this final. The match started with two breaks of serve as Krejcikova was broken in the first game and then she broke Pavlyuchenkova in the second game. Krejcikova then started to dictate the points putting Pavlyuchenkova under all sorts of pressure and causing her to make many errors. Krejcikova managing to win 6 consecutive games to win the 1st set of the final 6-1. Pavlyuchenkova stayed true to her game and started to make less errors in the second set. She raced to a 5-1 lead. Krejcikova saved a set point 5-1 down and managed to hold serve and force Pavlyuchenkova to serve out the 2nd set. At the change over, Pavlyuchenkova took a medical timeout as she heavily strapped up her left leg. She did manage to serve it out and took the 2nd set 6-2. Both ladies picked up their level in the 3rd and deciding set. Krejcikova proving in the end to be too strong as she took the 3rd set 6-4. What a tournament it was for both players but especially to our new Roland Garros champion, Barbora Krejcikova.
Well done to ‘Lorna Forbes’, ‘Ian’s Alternates’ and ‘The Magic Team’ for picking Krejcikova. Also a mention to ‘Oh My Hat’ who was the only team to pick the runner-up, Pavlyuchenkova.
What this means in terms of the fantasy tournament is a shake up at the top. With no more players left to play after today, ‘Lorna Forbes’ gives herself a chance of winning the grand prize as she becomes the leader for the first time by 7 points over ‘Oh My Hat’. BUT ‘Oh My Hat’ still have a men’s finalist so could easily swallow up that lead. ‘Ian’s Alternates’ moved themselves up to 3rd in the leaderboard with ‘Ronan the Man’ moving down to 4th and ‘Romain Soula’ moving down to 5th. ‘Romain Soula’ however has picked both of the male finalists so definitely still has a chance to win a prize. Still so much to play for as we head into the final day of Roland Garros 2021. Here is the leaderboard.
