Roland Garros – Men’s Final and Wrap Up

Roland-Garros 2025: A Grand Finale to Remember

Sunday, June 8, 2025, delivered a truly unforgettable day in tennis, as Roland-Garros came to a thrilling close with one of the most remarkable men’s finals in Grand Slam history.

🏆 Alcaraz vs. Sinner: A Clash of Titans

Carlos Alcaraz once again proved why he’s one of the sport’s brightest stars. In a five-set battle against world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz staged an extraordinary comeback after losing the first two sets, ultimately winning 4–6, 6–7(4), 6–4, 7–6(3), 7–6(10–2).

The match lasted nearly 5.5 hours, making it the longest Roland-Garros final ever and the second-longest Grand Slam final in history. At 3–5 in the fourth set, Alcaraz saved three championship points — joining a very short list of players who have come back to win a major after doing so.

In the final-set tiebreak, he displayed supreme nerve and skill, clinching the title with a blistering forehand winner. It was the first Grand Slam final meeting between Alcaraz and Sinner — and it lived up to every bit of the hype.

⚡ A Rivalry for the Future

This final marked their 12th career meeting, and the quality of play reaffirmed what fans and analysts have anticipated: this is the rivalry that could define the next decade of men’s tennis. Their intensity, creativity, and endurance thrilled the crowd and signaled a new era in the sport.

🥇 Alcaraz’s Growing Legacy

With this win, Alcaraz now has five Grand Slam titles — and has won all five finals he’s played. He becomes only the third man in the Open Era to defend his Roland-Garros title, joining legends Gustavo Kuerten and Rafael Nadal. His speech afterward was gracious, thanking Sinner and the fans for sharing the moment.

Doubles Champions Crowned

  • Men’s Doubles: Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos finally broke through to win their first major together.
  • Women’s Doubles: Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani lifted the trophy, capping off an amazing week for Errani, who also took home the mixed doubles title earlier.

📊 Historic Context

  • Both the men’s and women’s finals featured the world’s top two players — something that hasn’t happened at Roland-Garros since 1984.
  • Alcaraz’s back-to-back Paris titles place him in elite company — and at just 22, he’s already shaping his legacy.
  • The men’s final added yet another epic chapter to the sport’s history, being one of the longest and most competitive Grand Slam finals ever.

🌟 Final Thoughts

June 8, 2025, will go down as one of the greatest days in Roland-Garros history. The men’s final was a true masterpiece — a battle of talent, resilience, and passion. Alcaraz solidified his status as a generational talent, while Sinner pushed him to the brink and confirmed his own place at the top of the game.

As the sun set on Paris, it became clear: the future of tennis is not just bright — it’s blazing.

Fantasy Leaderboard

In 1st Place we have a new winner in, ‘Rally Tally Score’ owned by Debbie Shutte. They have dominated the final week and they picked all 4 finalists meaning they could hold off the chasing pack behind. They will be taking home the grand prize of R1100.

In 2nd Place, just 2 points behind our winners was ‘Left is best’ owned by our chairman, Graeme Waugh. Unfortunately they could not catch up to ‘Rally Tally Score’ because of having the same players in the 2nd week. However a very impressive performance coming in 2nd place and winning R500.

In 3rd Spot, was Served. They jumped up into 3rd and once they did that they consolidated the spot by having all 3 finalists. They finish just 6 points from the top and considering Nikki Godfrey won the Australian Open, she is looking to have a very impressive fantasy league year. She will be taking home the R350 prize for 3rd.

In 4th Spot finishes Down the Line, owned by our very own Audrey Hugo. ‘Down the Line’ had a very impressive run at this years Roland Garros, leading the way for a few consecutive days. However in the latter half of the tournament they lost their top 3 spot and held onto 4th.
In 5th place is Sinful, which is also owned by Audrey Hugo. Sinful had a very uncomplicated path and was always in the top 10 and eventually finished in 5th spot. This means Audrey will be taking home R300 made up of R200 for 4th and R100 for 5th place.

The last prize position was 6th Place and this was the only position which changed on the last day. ‘Paris Bashers’ moved up 1 spot and into 6th place. Cathy Parker will therefore earn her entry money back with R50 winnings.

Then to our 2 lucky prize winners:

30th Place -> There was a joint 30th place between ‘Hard Hitters’ and ‘Pat’s Pick’ and therefore we have a spinoff to see who takes home the R50.

75th Place -> Our lucky winner at the bottom of the leaderboard in 75th place, was in fact me with the team ‘Randomizer’. Fun fact this team was completely made up of random numbers I generated off Google. Hence it did not do so well…

Lastly the Wooden Spoon Winner and this lady just loves prizes as she got 2 at the top of the leaderboard however she also wins wooden spoon. ‘New Balls Please’ owned by Audrey Hugo wins the wooden spoon at Roland Garros 2025.

Now the full leaderboard:
Reminder on colours:
