Wimbledon Day 1
🎾 Wimbledon 2025 Begins with Heat and Headlines
Day 1 of this year’s Wimbledon got off to a dramatic start, with extreme temperatures and some unexpected early exits grabbing the spotlight.
🌡️ Record-Breaking Heat
It was the hottest opening day in the tournament’s history, with temperatures hitting 32°C. Several matches were paused for heat-related breaks, and one spectator fainted during Carlos Alcaraz’s match, causing a brief delay.
🏆 Alcaraz Tested Early
Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz was pushed to the limit by Fabio Fognini in a grueling five-set battle. After nearly 4.5 hours on Centre Court, Alcaraz finally sealed the win, showing grit and maturity — and even helped out when a fan collapsed courtside.

There were several big-name casualties on the men’s side:
- Daniil Medvedev was upset by Benjamin Bonzi.

It was a rough day for seeded players.
🇬🇧 British Upsets and Breakthroughs
There was good news for local fans:
- Sonay Kartal caused one of the biggest surprises by beating No. 20 seed Jelena Ostapenko.
- Young wildcard Oliver Tarvet also impressed with a confident straight-sets win.
âś… Comfortable Wins for Contenders
- Aryna Sabalenka, Emma Raducanu, and Madison Keys all advanced.
- Raducanu’s match was briefly interrupted by a rogue champagne cork landing on court — which she laughed off.
