🎾 Men’s Singles Recap
- Carlos Alcaraz stayed on track to defend his title, moving into the third round with a four-set win over Fabian Marozsan. After a brief stumble in the second set, Alcaraz regained his rhythm and dominated the rest of the match. He will next face Damir Dzumhur.
- Biggest Surprises:
- Stefanos Tsitsipas, ranked 20th and a past finalist, was knocked out by 167th-ranked Italian Matteo Gigante in four sets.
- Casper Ruud, seeded seventh and a two-time finalist, lost to Nuno Borges of Portugal. Ruud struggled with a knee issue and faded badly in the final sets.
- Other Noteworthy Matches:
- Tommy Paul staged a thrilling comeback from two sets down to beat Marton Fucsovics in five.
- Frances Tiafoe cruised past Pablo Carreno Busta in straight sets.
- Holger Rune and Lorenzo Musetti both had confident straight-sets wins to reach the next round.
- Farewell Appearance:
- Richard Gasquet, playing his final French Open, bowed out after a second-round loss to Jannik Sinner. It marked his record-tying 22nd appearance at the tournament.
🎾 Women’s Singles Recap
- Iga Świątek, the top seed and reigning champion, beat Emma Raducanu in straight sets. Despite the loss, Raducanu’s coach emphasized that she’s still growing and should no longer be defined by her 2021 US Open title.
- Aryna Sabalenka, the world No. 1, also advanced with a strong performance, showing more depth and variety in her game.
- Other Highlights:
- Jasmine Paolini ended Ajla Tomljanovic’s run with a straight-sets win.
- Bernarda Pera upset 18th-seeded Donna Vekic in a tight third-set tiebreak.
- Olga Danilovic knocked out Danielle Collins, a former Australian Open finalist.
Onto the fantasy leaderboard and we have a new leader…’Down the Line’ has moved to the top of the leaderboard after sitting in 2nd yesterday. They lead by 3 points over ‘Left is Best’ who moved up 8 places and into 2nd place. Our leader from yesterday drops 2 positions and sits in 3rd place. Then there is a 3 way tie for 4th between ‘Rally Tally Score’, ‘Chalk Dust’ and ‘Back on Court!’. There is still a tie for 30th spot but 75th spot is currently being held by ‘Muncky 2’ who sit on 45 points. The wooden spoon is currently sitting with New Balls Please who sit on just 40 points after 4 days.
