Roland Garros – Day 3
Summary of day 3’s play is below:
Men’s Singles
- Novak Djokovic made a strong start with a convincing straight-sets win over Mackenzie McDonald, maintaining control despite gusty conditions.
- Cameron Norrie pulled off a major upset, ousting 11th seed Daniil Medvedev in a tense five-set showdown.
- Gaël Monfils thrilled the French fans with a dramatic comeback from two sets down to win in five, notching his 40th Roland Garros victory—tying the Open Era record for French players.
- Jack Draper recovered from a slow start to beat Mattia Bellucci in four sets.
- Jakub Mensik, a 19-year-old Czech mentored by Djokovic, handled a hostile French crowd and beat Alexandre Muller in four sets.
- Adam Walton claimed his maiden Grand Slam singles win by outlasting Maximilian Marterer in five sets.
- Grigor Dimitrov was forced to retire due to a thigh injury, marking the fourth straight Grand Slam from which he’s withdrawn mid-match.
🎾 Women’s Singles
- Coco Gauff cruised past Olivia Gadecki 6–2, 6–2, despite a humorous pre-match delay—she forgot her rackets!
- Lois Boisson, a French wildcard, knocked out 24th seed Elise Mertens, delighting the home crowd.
- Sonay Kartal impressed in her Roland Garros debut, breezing past Erika Andreeva 6–0, 6–2.
- Magdalena Fręch stunned 8th seed Ons Jabeur in straight sets, including a second-set rout.
- Victoria Azarenka, at age 35, made history by becoming the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam match with a “double bagel” (6–0, 6–0) against Yanina Wickmayer.
Onto the fantasy leaderboard and we have a new leader and out first leader after a round of play. ‘Sinful’ leads the way on 63 points which is 6 points ahead of 2nd which is ‘Down the Line’. Both teams owned by the same team owner 🙂
In 3rd place and just 1 point behind 2nd sits ‘Rally Tally Score’. In 4th and also just 1 point behind sits ‘Clay Crusher’. Then there is currently a 4 way tie for 5th between ‘Fine Whines’, ‘Sinister’, ‘Eiffel Power’ and ‘Fraud Watch’. Our leader from yesterday dropped 16 places and sits in 17th place. The wooden spoon is currently being held by ‘MCC’. And there are more ties currently surrounding the lucky prize winners of 30th place and 75th place.
