US Open – Day 8

🎾 US Open 2025: Fourth Round Fireworks and Quarterfinal Dreams

As the 2025 US Open barrels toward its final week, the fourth round has already delivered a cascade of drama, dominance, and emotional breakthroughs. From legends proving their mettle to rising stars making bold statements, here’s your courtside recap of what’s unfolded so far in Round 4.

🧨 Men’s Singles: Legends Hold, Seeds Fall

  • Novak Djokovic reminded everyone why he’s still a Grand Slam titan. The No. 7 seed dismantled Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-2), showing vintage form and laser-sharp focus.
  • Carlos Alcaraz, the No. 2 seed, continued his flawless run with a straight-sets win over Arthur Rinderknech (7-6(7), 6-3, 6-4). His blend of athleticism and shot-making remains unmatched.
  • Taylor Fritz, the top-ranked American, made quick work of Tomas Machac (6-4, 6-3, 6-3), booking his spot in the quarterfinals for the third straight year.
  • Jiri Lehecka (No. 20 seed) outlasted Adrian Mannarino in four sets, showcasing grit and power to advance (7-6(7), 6-4, 2-6, 6-2).

🇺🇸 Jessica Pegula Powers Through

Jessica Pegula, the No. 4 seed and America’s steadiest performer, wasted no time dispatching fellow countrywoman Ann Li in a clinical 6-1, 6-2 victory. Pegula’s precision and court awareness were on full display, as she broke Li five times and never faced a break point herself. With this win, Pegula reaches her third consecutive US Open quarterfinal, and she’s looking more confident than ever.

“I’m just trying to stay aggressive and play my game,” Pegula said post-match. “The crowd energy really helps me lock in.”

🔥 Sabalenka’s Statement Win

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka continued her ruthless march toward a title defense, defeating Cristina Bucsa 6-1, 6-4. Bucsa, playing in her first fourth round at a Slam, showed flashes of brilliance but couldn’t withstand Sabalenka’s relentless pace and depth. Sabalenka has yet to drop a set in the tournament and looks every bit the dominant force she was in 2023 and 2024.

“I’m feeling great physically and mentally,” Sabalenka said. “I know what it takes to win here, and I’m ready.”

đź’Ą Vondrousova Rallies Past Rybakina

The upset of the round as Vondrousova managed to beat Rybakina who was looking to be back at her best. Vondrousova proved that she still is that tricky opponent that you just don’t want to meet in a grand slam and is now looking to see if she can win her second grand slam after winning Wimbledon in 2023. The final score was 6-4; 5-7; 6-2.

🎭 Krejcikova Ends Townsend’s Dream Run

Barbora Krejcikova, the 2021 French Open champion, survived a rollercoaster match against fan favorite Taylor Townsend, winning 1-6, 7-6(15), 6-3. Townsend came out blazing, dominating the first set with fearless net play and emotional fire. But Krejcikova’s resilience shone through in a marathon second-set tiebreak that lasted over 20 minutes. After saving multiple match points, she steadied herself in the third to close out the win.

“That tiebreak was one of the toughest moments of my career,” Krejcikova admitted. “Taylor played incredible tennis. I just had to stay calm and fight.”

🗓️ What’s Next?

Quarterfinal spots are on the line, and the tension is palpable. With Djokovic, Alcaraz, Fritz, and Sabalenka all looking strong, the path to the final is narrowing—but don’t count out the underdogs just yet.
