Wimbledon Championships – Day 3,4,5

Wow oh wow it has taken a while for me to get this post out to all of you. Apologies for that but it was a bit of a mess when it came to points and substitutes but we are back on track and leaderboard has been completed up until the end of yesterday.

So what have we missed? I have not reported on either of the epics which Tsitsipas was involved in. The match with Thiem which carried over 2 days was some of the best tennis of the championships with Tsitsipas squeeking through in the 5th set tiebreak 10-8. Then the Greek went on to play Murray in the next round which also needed 2 days to be completed and once again it was Tsitsipas who came through a 5 set encounter.

Berrettini, a former finalist here at Wimbledon, was coming into the tournament with not many wins under his belt and he was coming back from an injury yet he finds himself in the 3rd round after beating fellow Italian Sonego in the 1st round in 4 sets and then beating the inform Australian, De Minaur, in straight sets. The Italian will now go onto face Zverev in the next round so not the easiest draw for the dangerous Italian.

Korda the 22nd seed rated himself coming into Wimbledon but he suprisingly fell at the first hurdle as he lost to Vesely in 4 sets. Vesely then went on to lose his next round match against O’Connell in straight sets.

Someone who is going very well this year at Wimbledon is unseeded 21 year old, Lehecka. He is yet to drop a set at this years championships after beating Ofner and the dangerous 18th seed, Cerundolo in straight sets. He is currently today up 2 sets to love against 16th seed, Paul.

Djokovic is still unbeaten on centre court since 2013 as he is into the 4th round here at this years Wimbledon Championships. He will be up against Hurkacz who knows what it’s like to win on centre court after he defeated Federer here a few years ago.

Rune, Alcaraz and Sinner have all navigated their way through their various rounds so far which is good for the young generation. Zverev had to wait an extremely long time to play his 1st round match but is well into the championships now as he won his first 2 matches.

Bublik and Rublev have both been going well so far. Bublik has continued his good form since the start of the grass court season while Rublev continues to remain consistent in all tournaments no matter the surface. These 2 will face each other in the 4th round.

In the ladies draw there have been some surprises while others have so far cruised through. Swiatek is yet to drop a set on her way to the 4th round. The number 1 in the world hoping to hold onto that spot after Wimbledon as well as win her first ever Wimbledon title. Rybakina has struggled in her opening rounds but has survived the challenges so far on her way to the 3rd round where she is facing home favourite Boulter who is one of or the last standing Brit in any of the singles draws. Jabeur has found form just at the right time as she has been flawless on her way to the 3rd round. Pegula at times has struggled but overall the draw has opened up for her in her quarter and she is taking full advantage as she is into the 4th round here at Wimbledon.

Svitolina continues her amazing comeback as she is into the 4th round. She has beaten the likes of Mertens in the 2nd round as well as Kenin in the 3rd round. Both of which are some big wins for the Ukrainian. Kvitova who came into the tournament playing some great tennis and some people saying she is a favourite to win it has impressed so far. She is currently at the time of writing a game away from booking her spot in the 4th round. Bencic came into Wimbledon with very few matches under her belt and wow has she impressed so far. She struggled past Collins in the 2nd round, winning that match in a super tiebreak but she looked very impressive in the 3rd round as she beat Linette who is dangerous on the grass in straight sets 6-3; 6-1.

Azarenka and Keys have also so far been playing some great tennis. Azarenka struggled in her first round match but since then has not dropped a set. She beat Kasatkina who was looking very good after the first 2 rounds in straight sets and will now face Svitolina for a spot in the quarter-finals. Keys is yet to play her 3rd round match but is yet to drop a set so far.

Onto the fantasy leaderboard and I am not sure what has happened over each day but right now as it stands we have ‘Sinner’s Injuries’ in 1st place on 124 points. ‘Fantasy Alive’ and ‘Calf Cramps’ are sitting on 120 points and in a joint 2nd place. ‘Drop Shots’ sit in 4th on 117 points. I have to say they are one of the most consistent teams in this league. ‘Wimbledon Days’ sit in the last prize position (5th) on 111 points.

We have lost our first team after day 5. ‘Kiss my Ace’ tried a different tactic but sadly it did not pay off. The are not the wooden spoon holders just yet as ‘2nd Choice’ is still below them but there is just 4 points between them.
