US Open – Day 4

Day 4 bring about the end of round 2. I can’t believe we already heading into round 3. Time flies when there is exciting tennis to watch. We will begin with the mens draw today and another great day of tennis but less upsets on day 4. Brooksby performed a big upset as he knocked out 25th seed and in form Borna Coric in straight sets. No one picked Brooksby but fun fact he has scored the most points out of everyone so far. 15th seed, Cilic, 11th seed, Sinner, 3rd seed Alcaraz, 9th seed Rublev, 14th seed Schwartzman, 7th seed Norrie and 22nd seed Tiafoe all won their respective matches in straight sets. 20th seed, Evans beat Duckworth in 4 sets. This means 4 British mens players are into the 3rd round (Murray, Norrie, Draper and Evans). 26th seed, Musetti came back from a set down to book his spot in the 3rd round. Nakashima pleased the American crowd as he knocked out 17th seed Dimitrov in straight sets. Another seed to fall was the 32nd seed, Kecmanovic who lost in 4 sets to unseeded Frenchman Gasquet. Shapovalov the 19th seed, beat Carballes Baena in 4 sets to book a meeting with 9th seeded Rublev. Ivashka performed the biggest upset of the day with a win over 8th seed Hurkacz. 2nd seed, Nadal beat a challenging opponent in Fognini in 4 sets. He had to come back from a 6-2; 4-2 deficit to take the match.

26th seed, Azarenka along with 8th seed Pegula, 1st seed, Swiatek, 9th seed Muguruza, 22nd seed Pliskova and 19th seed Collins all won their respective matches in straight sets. 13th seed, Bencic survived a scare. Cirstea her opponent was serving for the match at 5-4 in the 2nd set before Bencic won 3 games in a row to take the 2nd set and take the match to a decider. Bencic dominating the 3rd set to book her spot in the 3rd round. Davis came back from losing the first set to love to beat the 28th seed Alexandrova in 3 sets. The match having to be decided in a super tiebreak. Martic knocked out the 4th seed Badosa. Badosa took a really tight 1st set in a tiebreak but after that the unseeded Martic dropped just 3 games on her way to knocking out the 4th seed. 6th seed Sabalenka was down 6-2; 5-1 against Kanepi and somehow pulled off a miraculous comeback to take the match in 3 sets.

There were a lot of picks lost today. Dimitrov (1 pick), Hurkacz (3 picks), Ramos-Vinolas (1 pick), Coria (1 pick), Auger-Aliassime (9 picks), Fognini (1 pick), Kecmanovic (1 pick), Stephens (3 picks), Putinseva (1 pick), Badosa (7 picks), Begu (3 picks), Alexandrova (1 pick) and Cirstea (1 pick) all lost today.

Onto the fantasy leaderboard and for the first time this US Open we have a leader for a consective day. ‘Drop Shots’ hold onto their first place with ‘Never Nadal Moment’ just 5 points behind in 2nd. ‘Body Shot’ moved up into 3rd while ‘Ace Ron’ moved down into 4th. There is still a tie for the last prize position. This time it’s between ‘Vax Needed’, ‘Hit and Run’, ‘Eish’ and ‘Stoppers’. The other big battle is for the wooden spoon with 5 teams just seperated by 6 points. ‘Magic Team’ is now winning the wooden spoon.
