Australian Open – Quarter finals (2)

Second day of quarter finals did not disappoint. The 2 ladies matches started off day 10 and both of the matches went to three sets. The first match saw number 1 seed and home favourite Barty crashing out. She lost to the 25th seed Karolina Muchova in 3 sets. The second match was between the two Americans – Brady and Pegula. Pegula managed to take the first set but Brady then hit back and won in three sets. Could Muchova or Brady go all the way? The next match was between the two Russians and good friends – Medvedev and Rublev. Medvedev proved to be too strong for Rublev and managed to win in straight sets. The last match on today was between the Greek sensation Tsitsipas and one of the greatest of all time Nadal. Nadal played extremely well and took the first two sets comfortably. Tsistipas managed to hang on in the third set and took it to a tiebreak. Nadal made some uncharacteristic errors in the tiebreak which the Greek capitalised on and extended the match to a 4th set. With the wind back in his sails Tsitsipas managed to take the 4th set meaning that this match was going the distance. Tsitsipas managed to be just the third player to beat Nadal from 2 sets down. An amazing effort from him.

“Guys and Dolls” have retaken the lead, but its a slender lead of just 1 point. This is an extremely close fight between the top 3. It could go anyone’s way. Here is the leaderboard after Day 10.

Congratulations to “Guys and Dolls” for retaking the lead. “TJ Squared” losing 2 players today dropping them down from 1st to 3rd.

We have now lost three more teams. “Phenomonadal”, “The Rackateers” and “Kunnie Fradley” have lost all 6 of their picks. Today hurt a lot of teams because many teams had Nadal and Barty as their picks. Who will win the 1K prize for 1st place and the R250 for second place. Bring on the semi-finals!
