Wimbledon Championship – Day 2

Sorry for the extremely long wait for the first post of these Wimbledon Championships. I did post the leaderboard of day 1 if your curious and want to check it out.

We have been treated with some exceptional tennis at the beginning of these championships. Upsets galore and apparently form coming into the tournament did not mean much as some winners of the pre tournaments have fallen in round 1. The news of Cilic and Berettini was disappointing and we hope no other players are affected from here on out. The rain has also been a nuisance as we still have some incomplete round 1 matches that need to be finished on day 3. Sakkari, Ostapenko, Krejcikova, Gauff, Swiatek, Badosa, Anisimova, Halep and Rybakina all started their campaigns with a straight set win. Rogers, Williams, Stephens, Giorgi, Teichmann and Putinseva all lost in their first round encounters. Dimitrov sadly had to retire in his match against Steve Johnson due to an injury he picked up after hitting a serve. Grenier, Gasquet, Kyrgios, Gaston, Krajinovic, Sonego, Shapovalov and Broady all came through tight 5 set matches to book their spots in the 2nd round. Evans disappointed the home crowd losing in the first round in straight sets. The 6th seed, Auger-Aliassime was up against a good grass court player in Cressy. Cressy lost the first set but won the next 3 sets to knock the 6th seed out of Wimbledon in the 1st round. Another seed to fall was Rune who lost in straight sets to Giron. Goffin, Baez, Penistan, De Minaur, Brooksby, Berankis, Bonzi, McDonald, Draper, Schwartzman, Bautista-Agut and Fritz all came through their 1st round matches in straight sets.

Onto the fantasy league leaderboard and after day 2 – ‘Body Shots’ lead by 1 point over ‘ Stentastics’ and ‘Another Try’. There is then a 3 way tie for 4th between ‘Grass Act’, ‘Simply Smashing’, ‘Not Quite Wimbledon’. In the wooden spoon position we have ‘Granny’s Geese’.
