Australian Open – Ladie’s Semi-Finals

Day 11 and the Ladies Semi-final’s day. Firstly before I talk about the semi-finals…in the mens doubles Kyrgios and Kokkinakis knocked out the 3rd seeds and Purcell and Ebden knocked out the 2nd seeds. This means that the mens doubles final is between to Aussie doubles teams. Well done to the pairings.

The first semi-final was between the number 1 in the world Barty and unseeded American Keys. On paper this was a match to watch but in reality it was a comfortable win for the world number 1. Keys did not bring her game on the day and Barty did which is why the scoreline was what it was. Barty with that win becomes the first home player in Australian Open final since 1980 – Wendy Turnbull. The second semi-final was between 27th seed American, Collins, and 7th seed Polish player Swiatek. Collins raced to a 4-0 lead but struggled to close out the set but eventually taking it 6-4. This released all the nerves and she pushed aside the 7th seed 6-1 in the 2nd set to book her place in Saturday’s final.

Onto the leaderboard and there is no tie for first today. ‘Magic Team’ moves 3 points ahead of ‘To immunity and Beyond’ who still sit in 2nd. ‘Novax Needed’ has set up camp in 3rd and they remain 3rd. ‘Pat’s Pick’ and ”Love all’ sit in joint 4th with ‘FD Fantastics’ just outside of the prize positions in 6th. We sadly lost 2 teams today – ‘You’ve Met Your Match’ and ‘Melbourne Magic’.
