US Open – Day 3

Day 3 was full of surprises on the court and off the court. Torrential rain at the end of the day meaning that some matches have been postponed to Thursday. The rain was being blown through the sides of the roof and was dripping onto the court meaning that Anderson and Schwartzman had to come off and wait for Arthur Ashe to free up to finish their match. A crazy end to day 3! 25th seed, Kasatkina, had a tough 2nd round match against Vondrousova. The 25th seed coming back from a set down to book her spot in the 3rd round. 32nd seed, Alexandrova, was up against fellow Russian, Rakhimova. The unseeded Russian getting the better of Alexandrova in straight sets. The last ladies match was between the 2 Americans, 17 year old Gauff and former US Open champion Stephens. Gauff did not bring her A-game and Stephens did which meant that Stephens cruised to a 6-4; 6-2 victory. Alcaraz beat Rinderknech which made him the youngest player to reach round 3 at 2 grand slam events since Novak Djokovic in 2005. Australian, Popyrin, defeated Dimitrov in straight sets. The latter having to retire during the 3rd set after 2 gruelling sets. Laaksonen came back from 1 set down against 16th seed Garin to win in 4 sets. A good win for the Swiss. Molcan and Gojowczyk both came through in 5 sets. van de Zandschulp beat 8th seed and in form Ruud in 4 sets. A fantastic win for the Dutchman. Medvedev, Auger-Aliassime and Bautista-Agut all came through fairly easily. Tsitsipas beat Mannarino in 4 sets. Once again he had a lengthy bathroom break after losing the 3rd set and was booed when he came back on court. Schwartzman came through against Kevin Anderson in straight sets. Schwartzman almost lost the opening set but after eventually taking it, cruised to the finish line.

Onto the fantasy league, 4 male picks lost on day 3. Among them were, Koepfer, Dimitrov, Anderson and Ruud. Day 3 also saw the loss of 5 ladies picks. Among them were: Vondrousova, Zidansek, Gauff, Garcia and Alexandrova.

‘Wine Snob 2’ makes it three lead changes in 2 days. They lead by 6 points over ‘Chalk Dust’ who moved up 12 spots on day 3. In third is ‘Or Smooth’ on 78 points. The leaderboard is still very tight heading into Day 4. Not sure what the weather is doing though?
