Australian Open – Day 4

And Round 2 is complete. Only 2 rounds down but already there has been many top players falling. The notable one today being the defending champion, Sofia Kenin, crashing out in straight sets. Today saw the picks of Coric and Sonego dropping out in the mens draw and Kenin and Stosur dropping out in the ladies draw.

As we enter deeper into the tournament, the matches start to become more and more uncertain as the strength of the opponents increase. With this in mind an early advantage could be useful and “Guys and Dolls” have now pulled out a nine point lead. Here is the leaderboard after Round 2 and Day 4.

Kanepi defeated defending Champion Sofia Kenin in straight sets – 6-3; 6-2

Kontaveit managed to survive against Watson – 6-7(5); 6-4; 6-2

Svitolina beat up and coming 16-year old Gauff – 6-4; 6-3

Veteren Lopez playing is his 75th consective slam managed to come back from 2 sets to beat Sonego in 5 sets – 5-7; 3-6; 6-3; 7-5; 6-4

Last South African standing Harris managing to win in 5 sets against Australian Popyrin – 6-2; 1-6; 6-3; 6-7(5); 6-3

Tsitsipas managing to survive a real scare against Australain Kokkinakis – 6-7(5); 6-4; 6-1; 6-7(5); 6-4

McDonald beat Coric – 6-4; 6-2; 4-6; 6-4

Fognini managed to win in the final set super tiebreak against fellow Italian Caruso – 4-6; 6-2; 2-6; 6-3; 7-6(12)

Some matches to watch out for tomorrow:

Dimitrov vs Carreno Busta (04:45)

Mannarino vs Zverev (05:15) – This one is particularly interesting because both are picks.

Shapovalov vs Auger Aliassime (10:00) – This one is also two picks up against each other.

And the big one tomorrow is Thiem vs Kyrgios (10:00)

Osaka vs Jabeur (04:30) – Also two picks going at it.

Kudermetova vs Halep (10:00)

Swiatek vs Ferro (12:00)
