Goodbye Rome, Hello Venice

Today was spent mostly on the bus. After breakfast at the hotel we set off for the long journey to Venice. We had stops along the way but it did take all day to get here.

We stopped at Verona and marveled at the wonderful arena in the centre of Verona. This is the second arena I have seen and it is just crazy to think how old they are. It used to be 6 storeys high but now not much is left. It is now used for concerts and festivals, and there is one being set up right now.

We then took a walk to the famous Juliet balcony from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It is such a gorgeous courtyard. As you walk in there is lots of graffiti and writing on the walls of the entrance to the courtyard. Inside there is a beautiful statue of Juliet and then the iconic Juliet’s balcony. It is believed that if you touch Juliet’s right breast it will bring you true love and if you are already with someone you should kiss them in the courtyard to bring you everlasting love.

We then took a stroll through the streets of Verona. It is such a beautiful little town with amazing architecture. Each building has its own unique twist and so many balconies decorated with greenery. It is just beautiful. There was a lovely little market in the centre of Verona which I also enjoyed having a wonder through. It was extremely hot and so a gelato was definitely needed before making the final trip to Venice.

Once we had all freshened up, we enjoyed a lovely meal together down the road from the hotel before setting off for some evening drinks.

I am looking forward to exploring the Venice islands tomorrow. Ciao!
