US Open – Day 6 Action

Day 6 of the US Open started with a match between 2 unseeded mens players. Draper was up against Mmoh and it was Draper who came through the encounter in 4 sets to book a spot in the round of 16. Alcaraz and Evans put on a show for those at Arthur Ashe Stadium. It was a great display of mens tennis and it was the number 1 in the world and Wimbledon champion who came through the battle in 4 sets. Arnaldi continued his fantastic run at this years US Open as he knocked out 16th seed, Cam Norrie, in straight sets. His reward for this great win is a meeting with number 1 in the world Alcaraz. Rublev came back from losing the first set to beat Rinderknech in 4 sets. Rublev now goes on to face Draper for a spot in the quarter-finals. 6th seed, Sinner, had a harder time than I think many people expected against veteren Wawrinka. Sinner took the 1st set before Wawrinka rolled back the years to take the 2nd set comfortably 6-2. Sinner however was just too good as he took the next 2 sets 6-4; 6-2 to book his spot in the round of 16. De Minaur and Medvedev both won their respective matches in straight sets. Medvedev especially is looking very dangerous on these US Open courts. The big match in the night session was between 12th seed, Zverev, and 19th seed, Dimitrov. The first 2 sets both went to tiebreakers. Dimitrov winning the first tiebreaker comfortably 7-2 and Zverev scrapping through the 2nd set tiebreaker 10-8. Zverev after the 2nd set was pure class, dropping just 2 games in the next 2 sets.

In the ladies draw, Kasatkina, Sabalenka, Vondrousova and Stearns all won their respective matches in straight sets. 17th seeded American, Keys managed to come back and win against Samsonova the 14th seed. Keys won the match 5-7; 6-2; 6-2 and continues to look threatening here at the US Open. She will now face Pegula for a spot in the quarter-finals after Pegula beat Svitolina in 3 sets. Both ladies in that encounter were hitting the ball so cleanly and it was a great match to watch. Zheng continues here run as she beat Bronzetti in 3 sets. Lastly Jabeur had to come through yet another 3 set match. This time it was against 31st seed, Bouzkova, who was playing some great tennis. Jabeur winning the match 5-7; 7-6(5); 6-3 to once again keep her US Open alive.

Onto the fantasy leaderboard and there has been a bit of a shake up at the top. ‘Draper’s Injuries’ are in a joint 1st place with ‘Dropshots’. ‘Dropshots’ currently have the best mens team in the league which is helping them remain in the fight for the win. Jumping up 4 spots and now sitting in 3rd is ‘PhenomeNOnadal’. They are now just 2 points off the top spot. ‘Fantasy Alive’ had a day to forget as she dropped from 1st to 4th and is now 3 points off the lead. ‘Hawks Hackers’ had a great day as they moved up 6 spots and into a prize position (5th place). ‘Talented Turtles’ lost the ground they made up and are now 14 points in the lead for the wooden spoon.
