Australian Open – Day 13

Day 13 – The ladies final! Could Ash Barty end a 44 year drought for her Aussie fans or would 27th seed, Collins win her first grand slam in her first grand slam final appearance? The first set was nervy from both players. 4 holds of serve and then out of nowhere a break point for Collins. 3 first serves from Ash and she made it 5 holds in a row. The next Collins service game was tight and it was Barty’s turn to have a break point. Collins felt the pressure as she served her first double fault to hand Barty the break. Barty went on to take the set 6-3. Collins came out the blocks quickly in the 2nd set and managed to break Barty and lead 3-0. Barty then held to make it 3-1. Collins won her service game comfortably and once again Barty made silly unforced errors and Barty found herself 5-1 down in the 2nd set. Barty kept calm and broke Collins and then followed that up with a hold and all of a sudden it was 5-3. For the second time Collins was 30 all on serve and lost it and we were back on serve at 5-4. Barty held to 30 and we were level at 5-5. Collins then finally found a comfortable service game to make it 6-5. Barty found herself in a pickle at 15-30 but once again served her way out of it and we headed into a tiebreak. Barty got the immediate mini break and raced to 3-0 and then 4-0. Collins won her first point to make it 4-1 but Barty was too good as she sealed the match 7-2 in the tiebreak. Barty was the first Australian to win her home grand slam in 44 years. Well done to Barty.

There was not much change in the leaderboard as most teams(45 teams) had Barty and not one team had Collins. The top 5 remained the same from yesterday. Well done to Johan’s Team for moving up 6 places.

NB: All the teams in yellow picked the ladies winner -Barty.
