French Open – Day 2

After the manic day 1, we wondered what day 2 had in stall for us and day 2 did not disappoint. Medvedev managing to win not only his first set at Roland Garros but also his first match. South African, Lloyd Harris, upset the ,26th seed, Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets. Musetti won his first main draw match at a grand slam beating David Goffin. I think we can all agree that it was awesome to see ,the master, Roger Federer playing some great tennis and making it through in straight sets. Sinner came through a tight match. He had to save a match point against Herbert before finally beating him in the fifth set. Day 2 saw both of the 2nd most picked ladies, Osaka and Muguruza, exiting the tournament. Muguruza losing in straight sets and Osaka causing more controversy by withdrawing from the tournament.

Onto the fantasy tournament…we saw a total of 7 male picks losing and 7 female picks losing. Bublik (8 picks), Sonego (7 picks), Paire (5 picks), Goffin (3 pick), Tsonga (1 pick), Tiafoe (1 pick) and Korda (2 picks) were amongst the male losers. Andreescu (2 picks), Martic (2 picks), Konta (1 pick), Muguruza (24 picks), Ostapenko (8 picks), Rogers (2 picks) and Bertens (2 picks) were amongst the ladies losers.

There is a 3 way tie for the lead after day 2. ‘Smash and Grab’, ‘Vamos! Allez’ and Servivors are all on 38 points with ‘Super Steve’ just 1 point behind. With many big names to play on day 3, Nadal and Djokovic being the biggest, there could still be some changes at the top. Day 3 is the last day of round 1 and I hope you are as intrigued as me to see who will end up leading after round 1. Here is the leaderboard after Day 2.

Day 2 saw 5 teams climb by over 20 places and 1 team managed to climb an incredible 31 spots. It also saw 4 teams drop by over 20 spots. ‘Winning ways’ sadly dropping from 5th to 46th. What will the last day of Round 1 hold…will we see more upsets?
