Australian Open – Ladies Final
Day 14 and we are coming to the end of the first grand slam. What a treat the ladies final was. Both ladies playing some amazing tennis which is certainly what you want to conclude the ladies draw and the first grand slam for the ladies in 2025.
53 teams had Sabalenka and I think pretty much everyone thought she would get the job done on day 14 as she had not lost in Australia in 3 years. However Keys was always going to be a tough opponent after the level she produced to reach the final against Swiatek. And what a level she produced in the final as the 19th seed took the opening set 6-3 but she had raced to a 5-1 lead in no time and it looked as if Sabalenka had no answers. The 2 games Sabalenka won at the backend of the opening set her up nicely for the next set as this time it was Sabalenka who raced away with the set, taking the set 6-2 and setting up a thrilling deciding set for the title. The set was on serve the whole way until Keys broke at 6-5 and therefore taking the match. The American winning her first grand slam and beat the world number 1 to do it. Impressive tennis. Impressive Level. Impressive start for Keys in 2025.
Onto the fantasy leaderboard and this result has meant some huge changes to the leaderboard. ‘Miss Hits’ has returned to the top of the leaderboard and lead by 13 points over ‘Wallabie Wannabes’ who have lost their lead. ‘Net Profit’ was one of the biggest movers and moved up 6 places and into 3rd spot just 2 points away from 2nd. ‘Eish’ moved down a spot to 4th. ‘Fantasy Alive’ move up 5 places into 5th and last prize position is going to ‘Faulty Feet’ in 6th.
41st spot is now occupied by Wizards but there is still so many people who can take 41st spot so still all to play for.
2 more teams were eliminated with the loss of Sabalenka. Namely ‘Love All’ and ‘Sexy Servers’.
