Australian Open – Day 11

We are back and we may have missed a few days but the tennis has still been playing and the points have been adding up. I will touch on all days which I have missed and will actually be posting each days leaderboard at the end so you can see your progress over the 3 days since day 9.

We will start with men’s matches and then move onto the ladies.

On day 9 we saw the conclusion of round 4. There were no real surprises on the winners list on day 9. 1st seed Sinner struggled with some shakes against Rune and Rune honestly played one of his best matches in a while against the world number 1. The net broke at the beginning of the 4th set which probably helped Sinner and the way he was feeling. He won in 4 sets against the Dane to book a quarter-final spot. De Minaur cleared what could’ve been a tricky opponent in Michelsen in straight sets to book a match against the World Number 1. Sonego beat Tien in 4 sets to book a meeting with Shelton who played 3 tiebreaks against Monfils. The American won 2 of the 3 before Monfils could not carry on unfortunately but an amazing run from the 38 year old Frenchman.

On day 10 we saw the start of quarter-final action. The 2nd seed, Zverev, was up first against the top fantasy scorer and 12th seed, Paul. The opening 2 sets were tightly contested with the German playing 2 unreal tiebreaks. Zverev losing just 1 point in 2 tiebreaks which is pretty insane. Paul fought back however in the 3rd taking it 6-2 to get yet another bonus point at this years Aussie Open Fantasy League. This was not enough however to get a comeback win as Zverev closed him off in emphatic style. The German winning the 4th set 6-1 to book his spot in the semi-finals. His opponent is not Alcaraz but rather Djokovic. Djokovic dropped the opening set 6-4 and looked in some discomfort in the 2nd. Alcaraz dropped his guard and let the Serb into the match and after Djokovic stole the 2nd set his tennis changed. The 37 year old looking for his 25th grand slam won the next 2 sets 6-3; 6; 6-4 to book a meeting with Zverev in the semi-finals. Djokovic could have to beat the 3rd, 2nd and 1st seeds on his way to claim the title.

Today, day 11 we saw the conclusion of the quarter-finals. 21st seed, Shelton continues his run at this years Aussie Open as he beat unseeded Sonego 6-4; 7-5; 4-6; 7-6(4). Could he make his first grand slam final. He will have to do it the hard way as he plays world number 1 and defending champion, Sinner in the semi-finals after the Italian destroyed Australian, De Minaur in straight sets, 6-3; 6-2; 6-1. Making him the best pick on day 10 with 10 points.

Now onto the ladies matches in the last 3 days. Starting with day 9 action and round 4 action…
28th seed, Svitolina, continued her run at his years Aussie Open as she beat unseeded, Kudermetova in straight sets. 19th seed, Keys played exceptionally well to beat Rybakina the 6th seed in 3 sets. The Kazak was playing some good tennis at this years Aussie Open but came unstuck against the tricky American. Keys taking it 6-3; 1-6; 6-3. Navarro the 8th seed once again found a way to win in 3 sets. The American winning every match so far in 3 sets at this years Aussie Open. She knocked out 9th seed, Kasatkina. 2nd seed, Swiatek ended the dream run for the lucky loser Lys…and she did it in an emphatic way dropping just 1 game.

Yesterday we saw some quarter-final action and day 10 started with an upset. 11th seed, Badosa knocked out 3rd seed, Gauff to book her spot in the semi-finals. The Spaniard seemingly starting to find her form from 2 years ago. Could 2025 be her year for a big title. She will play defending champion and world number 1 Sabalenka. Sabalenka beating 27th seed, Pavlyuchenkova in a tricky match. The defending champ has not had it her own way at this years Aussie Open and this match was no different. Sabalenka taking the match 6-2; 2-6; 6-3 to book yet another Hard Court semi-final. She really is becoming a hard court specialist.

Then day 11, today’s action. 19th seed, Keys once again had to come through a 3 set match. The American dropped the opening set to 28th seed, Svitolina 6-3 before taking the next 2 sets 6-3; 6-4 to book a spot in a grand slam semi-final once again. Svitolina however will be chuffed with her run at this years Aussie Open considering it was her comeback tournament after her injury at the end of last season. 2nd seed, Swiatek has seriously found her amazing form again after the struggle last season. She dropped just 3 games on her way to yet another semi-final. The 2nd seed beating 8th seed, Navarro, 6-1; 6-2. This made her the best pick on day 11 scoring a whopping 10 points. This makes it 3 rounds in a row which she has scored 10 points or more making the teams who picked her very happy. She is also the best lady pick now with 45 points. Can she go all the way and will we see a 1st vs 2nd seed final or can Badosa or Keys upset the party.

Onto the leaderboard and what I have done is produce all the leaderboards from day 9 to day 11. This means the movement on the leaderboard in day 11 is the movement from day 10 to 11 not day 9 to 11.

Our leader ‘Wallabie Wannebes’ has returned to the top and leads by 10 points over ‘Miss Hits’ who drops to 2nd. Hanging on in 3rd place is ‘Heksie’s Pot Luck’ who has had the most enjoyable time at this years Aussie Open, constantly in the top 3 it seems. ‘Crimson Rosella’ has moved themselves into some prize contention as they sit in 4th and 4 points behind 3rd. The last 2 prizes are with the 2 teams in joint 5th who are ‘Faulty Feet’ and ‘Eish’. Just 1 point however separates them from 7th placed ‘Ally Cats’.

The battle for 41st spot is heating up with teams separated by 1 or 2 points in around 41st. Currently ‘Eeny Meeny’ and ‘Calf Cramps’ occupy joint 41st position.

69th spot is now occupied by ‘Sexy Servers’ who have dropped 4 spots on day 11 and sit 2 points behind their nearest competitor.

With the loss of De Minaur, we also lost our 2nd team. ‘Laughing Kookaburra’ is out and they finish on 151 points and currently sit in 62nd spot. Are they now in contention for the 69th prize position. Just 12 points separate them from that spot and that spot prize.

Bring on the ladies semi-finals tomorrow! Enjoy!!
