Wimbledon – Ladies Final
Day 13 – The day of the ladies final. The penultimate day of the Championships. The number 1 in the world, Ash Barty, was up against the 8th seed, Karolina Pliskova. Barty came up firing while Pliskova looked nervy and tense. In no time at all, Barty was up 4-0 in the 1st set. Barty then had a shaky service game and allowed Pliskova to get her teeth into the match. Thankfully for Barty, she was a double break up because she managed to hold onto the break and take the first set 6-3. Barty then got the early break in the 2nd set and led 2-1. She then held for a 3-1 lead. A must win game for Pliskova and she won the game easily to make it 3-2. Once again just like the first set, Barty had a nervy service game and Pliskova broke back. Pliskova looked a lot better now and was playing more freely. At 5-5 though, Pliskova was broken and it looked like the number 1 in the world had the match wrapped up. Serving for the Wimbledon title though is easier said than done. Barty was broken from 15-40. A tiebreak it was in the 2nd set. Barty made way to many errors in the tiebreak and Pliskova managed to take it 7-4 and we were going to a 3rd set. A great effort from Pliskova to somehow still be in this final. Barty though was once again the first to break in the 3rd set and led 3-0. Pliskova managed to hold for 3-1. The 3rd set then went on serve and Barty was once again serving for the Wimbledon title at 5-3. Pliskova had a break point opportunity at 30-40 thanks to a Barty unforced error. A great return from Pliskova got Barty scrambling. Pliskova then went after her next backhand which flew wide. Barty was till in the game. An ace brought up a Championship point. Pliskova dumped a backhand in the net and Barty was the Wimbledon champion. A great but nervy match from both ladies.
In the fantasy tournament, Barty scored a whopping 13 points and Pliskova scored 6 points. The teams in yellow are the teams that had Barty. Well done to all 35 teams that picked Barty.
‘Anyone for Tea’ still leads after day 13 and looks comfortable our front with a 8 point lead over ‘Hotshot’. ‘Hotshot’ opens the gap to 3rd to 8 points. There is still a tie between ‘2nd Choice’ and ‘Stentastics’ in 3rd. Will the Men’s final separate them? ‘Top Turtles’ have regained 5th and the last prize position. ‘Cream of the Court’ is just 4 points behind though. Last day of Wimbledon coming up. Who will be finishing in the top 5?
