French Open – Quarter Finals
The first day of quarter finals did not disappoint. The day started with the 2 ladies quarter finals. The first was between Zidansek and Badosa. Both these 2 ladies vying for their first grand slam semi-final. Zidansek came back from 3-0 down in the first to take the first set 7-5. She was then a break up and lead 4-2 in the 2nd set before Badosa hit back with 4 straight games to take the 2nd set 6-4. It was then Badosa’s turn to be a break up but she was broken straight back. The 13th game in the decider, score was 6-6, turned out to be the most important game of the match. Zidansek fighting off three break points to take the game and lead 7-6. Badosa managed to save 1 match point but couldn’t save the 2nd match point. Zidansek became the first Slovenian to make a grand slam quarter-final and now she becomes the first Slovenian to make a grand slam semi-final. Can she go all the way? The second quarter final was between 21st seed, Rybakina, and 31st seed, Pavlyuchenkova. The first set went the way of Rybakina 7-6 and the second set went the way of Pavlyuchenkova 6-2. Once again we had a deciding set. Pavlyuchenkova took the early break and lead 2-0 before Rybakina won three games in a row and lead 3-2 with a break. The match eventually finished 9-7 to the 29 year old Pavlyuchenkova. In the male quarter finals, Zverev managed to comfortably beat Davidovich Fokina and Tsitsipas played a solid match to beat 2nd seed Medvedev in straight sets.
In the fantasy tournament, ‘Oh My Hat’ continues to lead but a new challenger has taken 2nd place. ‘Lorna Forbes’ is now just 3 points off the lead. ‘Romain Soula’, ‘Ronan the Man’ and ‘Frogs legs yum yum’ are fighting for the last 2 prize positions. Who will be winning the 4 prizes up for grabs? Sadly, our first team has been eliminated from the competition. ‘Hazel Waldron’ has sadly lost all her picks after Medvedev lost on day 10.
Medvedev and Badosa were the only 2 picks to lose on day 10.
