Australian Open – Day 8
An early post today because Berrettini was injured and didn’t play. Not many upsets today but that sets up some very intriguing quarter-finals. In the men’s draw today, Nadal, Medvedev and Rublev all won in straight sets and Tsitsipas received a walkover. In the ladies draw, Pegula continued her amazing run in this years Australian Open after beating Elina Svitolina in three sets. Brady won easily overcoming Vekic in straight sets. Muchova came back from a 4-0 deficit which then became a 5-2 deficit in the first set and she ended up winning the set in a tiebreak. She went on to win in straight sets. Barty was the last person to win on Day 8 after beating Rogers in straight sets.
“Guys and Dolls” continue to hold off the challengers and still they lead by 5 points over “TJ Squared”. The battle for wooden spoon continues because there are many teams hanging on with only 1 player left. Amazingly “Team Q” and “TJ Squared” still have 5 players and no teams have lost all their players. Here is the leaderboard after Day 8 and the start of week 2.
With “Guys and Dolls” having no players in their team playing tomorrow, could we see a change in the lead for the first time since Day 2? Only tomorrow will tell. Bring on the quarter finals!!!!!
