Breakfast with Pasteis de Nata? Who knew that one of the places to eat this little tart was just a short walk away from our apartment?  I’ll go with good planning. F\u00e1brica da Nata it turns out also offers a good little breakfast special so breakfast ended with dessert today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had decided to visit the Castelo de Sao Jorge and at the last minute switched to walking there instead of catching the metro, a tram or a bus; always a good choice if possible. Ignoring Google Maps from time to time we landed up exploring the various historical neighbourhoods before landing up in Pra\u00e7a do Com\u00e9rcio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then it was a left turn and uphill to the castle. The beauty of walking is that you often stumble upon places of interest you didn’t know about. In this case it was an archaeological site of Roman ruins dating back to the 1st century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arriving there, not originally intending to enter, meant having to get tickets, not how we usually do things. The queue was long and slow. But you can book online? I quickly bought tickets while in the queue and 5mins later we were in. Not sure why we were the only ones that did this (except for the American couple behind us that followed suit) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nikki loved the castle. The audio guide was engaging and linked to a theme followed at school so the time went quickly even though we spent nearly two hours up there. The views of Lisbon alone were probably worth the price of admission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making our way back down the hill did scare us a little. Our legs are definitely feeling the hundreds of thousands of steps we have taken over the past few weeks. But we saw a bus and quickly jumped on, what a win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A small quick lunch was next on the agenda before making our way back home for a siesta to ready ourselves for the evening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And what a night it was. Our final food tour by Lisbon Foodies was led by Duarte, quite a character and he mixed food, fun, drinks and history that had us thoroughly entertained for a full four hours and our stomachs were equally full.  A highly recommended way to get to grips with a new city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We rolled ourselves up the hill and collapsed into bed, full and maybe just a wee bit tipsy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
