I will keep it short and sweet. Day 4 saw the loss of Bublik, Hurkacz, Fritz, Johnson, Martic, Teichmann, Cirstea and Siniakova. Well done to Swiatek who survived a scare against French player, Ferro. Tomljanovic was 5-3 down against 30th seed Martic and managed to take the first set in a tiebreak. She then managed to win the second set and advances into the 3rd round for the first time at the US Open. The match of the night session though was definitely between Pliskova and Anisimova. What a match by the 2 ladies. Pliskova took the 1st set 7-5 but couldn’t put Anisimova away and the young American took the 2nd set in a tiebreak. The third set was up and down from both ladies and once again a tiebreak was needed to decide the set. Anisimova led the tiebreak 5-2 before losing 4 points in a row and Pliskova had the first match point. Anisimova saved the match point with a forehand volley winner. Anisimova then went 7-6 up and had a match point for herself. A backhand forced error and we were at 7-7. Sadly for Anisimova, 2 unforced errors and she was out. An incredible match! Crowd favourite Jack Sock managed to get through a tight 5 set match against 31st seed Bublik. Nishikori also came through a five set match against American McDonald. Seppi knocked out the 10th seed Hurkacz in 4 sets and Karatsev came back from 2 sets down against Thompson to book his spot in the 3rd round.

‘Volley Vibe’ is back in 1st spot with 109 points. ‘Wine Snob 2’ moves down one spot to 2nd but is just 2 points behind on 107 points. Rounding out the top 3 is ‘Stentastics’ who are on 106 points. This leaderboard is extremely tight. Here is the leaderboard after round 2 and Day 4.

Top Half

Bottom Half

Some results from Day 4:

Swiatek(7) beat Ferro – 3-6; 7-6(3); 6-0

Pavlyuchenkova(14) beat Schmiedlova – 6-2; 5-7; 6-2

Gracheva beat Badosa(24) – 6-4; 6-4

Pliskova(4) beat Anisimova – 7-5; 6-7(5); 7-6(7)

Karatsev(21) beat Thompson – 3-6; 3-6; 7-5; 7-6(9); 6-1

Seppi beat Hurkacz(10) – 2-6; 6-4; 6-4; 7-6(6)

Harris beat Escobedo – 6-4; 6-4; 6-2

Nishikori beat McDonald – 7-6(3); 6-3; 6-7(5); 2-6; 6-3

Sock beat Bublik(31) – 7-6(3); 6-7(2); 6-4; 4-6; 6-3

Brooksby beat Fritz – 6-7(9); 7-6(10); 7-5; 6-2

Some matches to watch today:

Alcaraz vs Tsitsipas(3) – (19:55)

Bautista-Agut(18) vs Auger-Aliassime(12) – (01:00)

Rublev(5) vs Tiafoe – (02:15)

Azarenka(18) vs Muguruza(9) – (currently on at 19:42)

Svitolina(5) vs Kasatkina(25) – (20:40)

Kerber(16) vs Stephens – (22:00)

Mertens(15) vs Jabeur(20) – (22:55)

Collins(26) vs Sabalenka(2) – (03:00)

So sorry that this post is out so late.
