This French Open continues to amaze us as seeds continue to drop out like flies. Overall over the first 5 days we have lost and astonishing 22 male picks and 25 ladies picks. The biggest news on day 5 was the number 1 seed in the ladies draw, Ash Barty, retiring during the second set of her match. This means that the top 2 seeds are out. Could we see another first time ladies champion here at the French open? Mertens had to come back from a set down to take her match in three. The 32nd seed, Alexandrova, and the 9th seed, Pliskova joined Barty as the 3 ladies seeds that lost during day 5. On the mens side, we saw old timer, Kohlschreiber, upset the 24th seed Aslan Karatsev in 4 hard fought sets. Fritz, the 30th seed, and Monfils, the 14th seed, both lost in 4 sets as well. Sadly for us South African’s, Lloyd Harris, couldn’t beat Norrie and so there are no South African’s left in the singles draw. The big 3 all coming through their matches and are all in the 3rd round. A Federer, Djokovic Quarter final still on the cards. Sadly for the French crowd, with Gasquet losing to Nadal, there are officially no French ladies or men left in the singles draws.

Onto the fantasy league and what a day we had. With Barty losing, we saw 37 teams lose her which is a big in terms of the tournament.

The mens picks that we lost on Day 5 included: De Minaur (1 pick), Cilic (2 picks), Monfils (1 pick), Harris (9 picks), Karatsev (2 picks), and Fritz (1 pick).

The Ladies picks that lost on day 5 included: Barty (37 picks), Pliskova (3 picks), Kvitova (5 picks), Alexandrova (8 picks), Giorgi (1 pick), Li (1 pick), Mladenovic (1 pick) and Wang (1 pick).

We have a new Leader!!!! What a day it was for team ‘Ronan the Man’. They scored an astonishing 39 points in 1 day. They moved up 13 spots from 14th to 1st and closed a 19 point gap to the lead. “Servivors” are just 2 points behind in second, with ‘Oh my Hat’ coming in in third. Amazingly there are 6 teams at the front separated by just 4 points. We are in for a very close battle for the win. At the other end of the leaderboard, there is a tie for the wooden spoon. A mini battle to avoid coming last between ‘Frogs first’ and ‘Barnards Pick’. Here is the leaderboard after Day 5.

The top half.
